Closing with the State

When closing your business with the state, the process may be different depending on which state you are in and their specific laws / rules / guidelines.

Keep in mind that when you open a business, you file with the secretary of state asking permission for a "license" to conduct business under that name.  They go ahead and open a business and give you "permission" with the license to run the business.

To close a business, do a search on your state secretary website to find the correct forms.  Here are some examples of what those forms are called:

- Certificate of Termination for a Domestic LLC

- Certificate of Cancellation

- Dissolution Documents

Login to the Secretary of State Website.  You will need your ID and pin, pay whatever nonsense fees you may owe, then file online for cancellation. You are welcome to ask for instructions over email from someone on your local .gov site.
